Dr. Catherine Ava Ali
As Principal Consultant at Arcadia Special Education Consulting Solutions, Dr. Catherine Ava Ali combines decades of scholarly competency with a deeply personal, empathetic approach. With over 35 years of expertise, she is dedicated to empowering families throughout their special education journey in Trinidad and Tobago.
Dr. Ali’s commitment to educational excellence is evident in her robust academic history. She holds a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Special Education from Walden University, USA, building on her Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Studies and Diploma in Education (Dip.Ed.)—both specializing in Special Education—from the University of Sheffield, UK. This deep specialization is supported by her foundational Teacher’s Diploma from the Trinidad and Tobago Board of Education and a Certificate in Guidance and Counselling from The University of the West Indies.
Dr. Ali’s extensive professional background—including her role as Assistant Professor and Discipline Leader of Special Needs Education at the University of Trinidad and Tobago—gave her a front-row seat to the emotional and practical struggles parents endure. This empathetic engagement fuelled her advocacy. She didn’t just understand the problems; she built solutions, founding the NGO, the Association for Family Empowerment for Children with Special Needs (AFECS).
When she steps away from her professional and philanthropic work, Dr. Ali enjoys spending time with her loved ones, nurturing her houseplants, and unwinding with a good mystery movie.
